Apple pie. Better yet, an apple crumble pie! There is something to be said about adding a homemade curst into a quiche, savory pie or a sweet pie. We all are intimidated by those perfectly woven fancy pie crusts. We want to help you make life delicious without making it a burden because we all don’t have time for that. This is why we. love. this. crumble topping. No fail, easy to throw together, low in sugar, low in salt and absolutely mouthwatering.
We also love company. Make it a crowd pleaser.
Pre-bake this pie half way ahead of time to please your guests by throwing it in the oven 10 final minutes when you’re ready for dessert to melt the ice cream as you serve it.
CRUST:
#1. If you have a food processor, you can whip together the 5 ingredients by barely lifting a finger.
#2. Refrigerating your crust for about 1 hour before you bake will help it to remain in place and not sink down into the pan loosing your crafty beautiful edges.
#3. If your edges aren’t perfect in the first place, no problem. We’re layering it with the CURED crumble.
#4. Instead of dirtying another utensil by using a rolling pin, by placing your dough ball in the center of the pie pan and slowly pressing outward toward the edges with your fingers works quickly and perfectly.
#5. Use this crust recipe for a homemade quiche as well!
APPLES APPLES APPLES:
We love this recipe because apples are seasonal, low in sugar compared to other fruits or pie recipes, affordable, and rich in flavor by combining partial red sweet and partial green tart. If you have the time, let your sliced apples marinate in the spices gives them a little extra flavor kick. Not a crucial step if you’re limited on time.
CRUMBLE TOPPING:
A topping you can remember by heart and use for any pie is our Cured Crumble. Again, if you have a food processor/Cusinart this eliminates some walnut chopping labor. Make sure to mix only enough where it begins to crumble so you can easily sprinkle it over your homemade crust with apples laying in the pie center.
BAKE:
Its Ok to bake this on the middle rack centered, however, if you notice the edges of your crust browning too soon (15 min before timer stops), lightly place a piece of foil over to slow the browning but continue the cooking.
